Hot girl summer is in full swing, and the party scene in Los Angeles is railing up for what is sure to be the craziest season in modern memory. Having missed a summer last year due to COVID-19, people’s need to go out and let loose is imminent, a response to mindless hours spent slowly passing time by binging television while working from home. But, with the rising heat comes another rising phenomenon, one which threatens to imperil the very lives of those so eager to celebrate their newfound freedom.

The rise of fentanyl-related deaths.

“As things have been opening up in LA things seem to be back in full force,” says Lucy Fields, a drug dealer in the city. “Nobody seems to consider fentanyl when they’re out and about, which really puts the pressure on people like myself to ensure the safety of our community.”

Hollywood is full of glitz and glam. Alluring to young, hot crowds, Los Angeles sticks in everyone’s mind as the city of opportunities: actresses, nightclubs, and a whole lot of blow.
